Fluent New Tab — v3.2 Release Notes (2026-03-10)

This release introduces several highly requested features alongside a round of UI polish, accessibility improvements, and performance enhancements.

Highlights

  • Shortcut Folders — organize your shortcuts grid with folders, now available as an optional feature
  • Drag & Drop from Favorites Bar — drag bookmarks directly from the browser's favorites bar into the shortcuts grid #15
  • App Launcher to Folder — convert App Launcher apps into shortcut folders for faster access (requires Folders to be enabled #15
  • Wallpaper Overlay Opacity — fine-tune wallpaper visibility with a new 0–60% opacity control

Shortcuts — Folders

  • Enable Folders in the shortcuts settings group to unlock folder support
  • When Folders are enabled, clicking "Add" now presents a choice: Add Shortcut or Add Folder
  • Folders support a custom name and hold up to 39 shortcuts
  • Drag shortcuts from the main grid onto a folder card and drop to move them inside
  • Drag shortcuts out of a folder grid back to the main grid to remove them from the folder (requires available space in the main grid)

Shortcuts — Drag & Drop

  • Drag bookmarks directly from the browser's favorites bar into the main shortcuts grid or into an open folder grid
  • Drag shortcuts from the main grid into a folder by holding the shortcut over the folder card and releasing

App Launcher

  • Added the ability to convert App Launcher apps into shortcut folders, enabling quick access without a separate widget
  • Requires the Folders feature to be active

Wallpaper

  • Added a new overlay opacity slider (0–60%) for active wallpapers
  • Helps improve readability when using bright or high-contrast images

UI & Design

  • Redesigned the search suggestions window to closer match native browser search bars
  • Redesigned and replaced browser-native alerts/confirms with custom Windows 11–style dialogs

Fixes & Improvements

  • Fixed various translation errors across multiple languages
  • Adjusted shadows and contrast on several UI elements for better visual consistency
  • General code performance improvements and speed optimizations
