Archives Unification β€” Women Religious Collections

A standardized framework for assessing, reconciling, normalizing, and integrating collections from multiple women religious repositories into a unified archival environment.

Major Operational Development

The ingest and reconciliation of the Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters (OLVM) collection significantly expanded this project and operationalized the Linear Reciprocity Model (LRM) within a live archival environment.

During processing, the OLVM materials exposed:

  • conflicting spreadsheet environments
  • flattened and invalid metadata structures
  • descriptive drift across repositories
  • mismatches between physical and intellectual arrangement
  • inconsistent vocabularies and identifiers
  • fragmented EAD and ArchivesSpace structures

Rather than treating these as isolated metadata issues, the project evolved into a reciprocal archival reconciliation framework designed to preserve originating informational systems while simultaneously normalizing collections into interoperable archival standards.

This process directly informed:

  • box-level verification workflows

Purpose

This project documents a repeatable and evidence-based framework for standardizing, reconciling, and integrating collections from approximately ten legacy repositories into a centralized archival environment while preserving provenance, community context, and discoverability.

The framework is designed specifically for distributed women religious archival environments where:

  • descriptive practices vary significantly
  • metadata structures are inconsistent
  • physical and intellectual arrangements have diverged over time

The project emphasizes reciprocal archival processing rather than unilateral standardization.
