Few ideas:

• What if a bar fills up as they type correctly on 3 letters (starting out), then
• Once the bar is filled x is added
• repeat until they get y incorrect typos
  Meaning:

1. On start screen each difficulty level simply adjusts y (the number of mistakes) and x (what must be added to the word)
2. We got z difficulty levels (where we decide on z - or anyone comes up with a creative number)

Potential problems:

• Boring if an experienced player would have to come and wants to start with 12 letters out the box.

Or do you think it is better to have granular control over it, where they set x and y at the start - on a sliding bar, for example.

Question:

• Do you mean links for adults as in "not just easy, but have some super difficult levels where older players also find challenge"?.
