For example, a [crowbar] section might include:

• activity from any Crowbar github repo
• activity from any Crowbar Trello board
• activity on the Crowbar mailing list
• tweets matching /crowbar/i
• bugzilla activity in the Crowbar component

Mhm, the current email template just concats the rendered results of $PLUGIN sub-templates. This would mean a single master template for the outputs of all plugins combined. Would need some internal refactoring but is doable of course. Tracking related changes is potentially harder. Config could look like this:

I don't think you need a master template - just a new section parameter and new filters, e.g.

[plugin:github:gh-crowbar]

Then the output of all plugins marked with section=crowbar get grouped together. And of course you can nest plugin output within a group, e.g.

    - github activity:
        - crowbar/barclamp-nova#18: fixed a bug
        - crowbar/barclamp-swift#7: fixed another bug
    - OBS activity:
        - blah blah

    ... similarly for other groups ...

[ungrouped]

    ... and anything without a `section` marker could appear here.
