🗺️ TapIn Roadmap (MVP to V1)

This roadmap outlines TapIn’s evolution from an MVP to a polished, scalable, and community-driven platform.

✅ Phase 1: Foundation (Research & Validation)

Goal: Confirm demand, tech feasibility, and user needs.

  • Lock in vision, mission, and manifesto
  • Conduct competitor and market research
  • Interview tenants, landlords, and property managers
  • Research Apple Wallet & Google Wallet pass generation
  • Study NFC + existing access control hardware compatibility

🚧 Phase 2: MVP Build (Core Features)

Goal: Build a working system that replaces physical keys with digital passes.

🎯 Core Features

  • Secure user authentication (tenants, managers, admins)
  • Property & unit management (multi-property ready)
  • Access key generation and revocation (one-tap wallet passes)
  • Offline fallback mode (QR code or time-limited offline access)
  • Admin dashboard (add/remove users, monitor access)

🧪 Tech Stack

  • Backend: Django + DRF
  • Frontend: Next.js + TailwindCSS
  • Database: PostgreSQL + Prisma (or Django ORM)
  • Wallet: Apple Wallet / Google Wallet Passes
  • Hosting: Netlify + Render

🧪 Phase 3: Pilot Program & Feedback

Goal: Validate usability in a real-world setting.

  • Deploy MVP to a test building or co-working space
  • Collect feedback from tenants and managers
  • Patch bugs and refine UX flows
  • Perform security testing and data audits
  • Measure ease of use, reliability, and adoption rate

🚀 Phase 4: Public Launch (V1)

Goal: Launch TapIn as an open-source project with paid hosting and support.

  • Open-source the codebase (MIT or GPL license)
  • Launch marketing site and documentation
  • Enable self-hosting with install scripts
  • Release cloud-hosted version with paid plans
  • Add Stripe for billing (SaaS tier for landlords)

🧭 Phase 5: Expansion Features

Goal: Scale capabilities and integrations.

  • Temporary guest passes (SMS, email, QR)
  • Time-based access scheduling
  • Entry logs and notifications
  • Multi-user households
  • Smart lock integrations (API bridge for hardware)
  • Mobile app for deeper access control (React Native)
  • Smart home ecosystem integration (HomeKit, Google Home)

🌍 Community & Ecosystem

Goal: Make TapIn sustainable and collaborative.

  • Create GitHub org and open discussions
  • Launch Discord or forum for contributors
  • Accept sponsorships and donations
  • Offer paid onboarding/support for co-ops and housing providers
  • Build an open spec for interoperable digital access cards
