It is often useful to run the system from batteries. While the 5v input theoretically lets us use a "power bank", the power from those is often pretty nasty (flickering LEDs, malfunctioning motors). It would be better to integrate a battery management chip to regulate a LiPo cell. Probably we'd want a solution that can handle both charging (ideally from a 5v or 12v input) and boost conversion to 5v (or higher) for running the Pi + motors + arduino + ...
