Is it possible to add gzip package to ubi openjdk image?

Maven wrapper requires gzip, so it would be nice to have it in the official openjdk ubi image. Would it be possible to add it in some point?

It's something we can consider. In general we try to keep the images as small as possible. The size of adding gzip is not too bad (+171kiB approx). Can you help to flesh out the use-case please? Why use Maven wrapper -- I guess to choose a maven version different to what we ship. How common a need is that I wonder? What versions are people preferring? Thanks!

I think official documentation summarize it quite well:

The Maven Wrapper is an easy way to ensure a user of your Maven build has everything necessary to run your Maven build.

Why might this be necessary? Maven has been very stable for users, is available on most systems, and is easy to procure. However, with many of the recent changes in Maven it will be easier for users to have a fully encapsulated build setup provided by the project. With the Maven Wrapper, this is very easy to do.

So, basically the idea is that project can decide what maven version should be used, and that same version is used in every environment from developers laptops to build pipeline. Maven version might be something which can change from project to project, so I think there's no common ground for some static maven version which suits to all use cases.
