GUI Improvements - Colorful Design & Video Playback

What's New

1. Colorful GUI Design

The application now features a vibrant, modern color scheme throughout:

Button Colors:

  • Green: Start, Play buttons - ✅ Action buttons
  • Orange: Pause, Fresh buttons - ⏸ Temporary state
  • Red: Stop buttons - ⏹ Danger/Stop action
  • Purple: Schedule button - 📅 Planning/Future actions
  • Purple: Exit button - 🚪 Application control
  • Cyan: Fresh button - 🔄 Refresh action
  • Orange-Red: Browse buttons - 📁 File selection
  • Blue: Default buttons - ℹ General action

Other Elements:

  • Blue Tab Headers: Modern tab design with green highlights
  • Light Gray Background: Clean, professional interface
  • Blue Input Fields: Clear focus states
  • Colorful Sliders: Blue handles with smooth interaction

Color Scheme Summary:

Primary Blue: #2196F3
Success Green: #4CAF50
Warning Orange: #FF9800
Danger Red: #f44336

2. Display Tab - Video Playback

Features Added:

  • Video Widget with black background (professional appearance)
  • Play/Pause/Stop Controls with color-coded buttons
  • Video Position Slider for seeking through video
  • Time Display showing MM:SS format (current / total)
  • Audio Volume Slider (0-100%) with percentage display
  • Video Brightness Slider (0-200%) for visual adjustment
  • Player Status Label showing current state with emojis:
    • 🟢 Status: Ready (Blue) - App ready
    • ⏳ Status: Loading... (Orange) - Loading video
    • ▶ Status: Playing (Green) - Video playing
    • ⏸ Status: Paused (Orange) - Video paused
    • ⏹ Status: Stopped (Red) - Video stopped
    • ⚠ Status: Error (Red) - Error occurred

3. Improved Media Player

Better Error Handling:

  • Validates file exists before playing
  • Shows loading status while media initializes
  • Displays descriptive error messages
  • 500ms delay ensures proper media loading

Playback Controls:

  • Smooth position slider for seeking
  • Volume control for audio adjustment
  • Real-time time display update
  • Proper sync between slider and playback

4. File Selection

Recording Tab:

  • Browse button to select output location
  • Default path: C:\Users\vhuang01\Videos\
  • File name format: Video_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.mp4

Display Tab:

  • Browse button to select video files
  • Supports: MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV formats
  • File path displays in input field

How to Use

Recording Tab (Original Functionality)

  1. Set Start Time: Use "Fresh" button to update to current time
  2. Select Duration: Choose from dropdown (2m, 30m, 1H, 1.5H, 2H, 2.5H, 3H)
  3. Choose Record Source: Camera, Screen 1, 2, or 3
  4. Select Audio Source: Microphone or "All of Above"
  5. Set Output File: Use "Browse..." to select location
  6. Schedule or Record:
    • Click "Schedule Recording" for future recording
    • Click "Start" for immediate recording
  7. Monitor Status: Watch status area for real-time updates
  8. Control Recording: Use Pause/Stop buttons to manage recording

Display Tab (New Video Playback)

  1. Select Video File:

    • Click "Browse..." button
    • Choose video file (MP4, AVI, MOV, or MKV)
    • File path appears in input field
  2. Play Video:

    • Click "Play" button (green)
    • Video displays in black player area
    • Status shows: "Playing ▶" (green)
  3. Control Playback:

    • Use "Pause" button (orange) to pause
    • Use "Stop" button (red) to stop
    • Drag position slider to seek
    • Time label shows current/total duration
  4. Adjust Audio/Video:

    • Audio Volume Slider: 0-100% volume control
    • Video Brightness Slider: 0-200% brightness adjustment
    • Both show percentage when adjusted

Color-Coded Status Indicators

Recording Tab LED:

  • 🔴 Red: Recording active
  • 🟠 Orange: Paused
  • 🟢 Green: Stopped/Ready

Display Tab Status Label:

  • 🔵 Blue: Ready state
  • 🟠 Orange: Loading/Paused
  • 🟢 Green: Playing
  • 🔴 Red: Stopped/Error

Button Legend

Button Color Purpose
Start 🟢 Green Begin recording
Play 🟢 Green Start video playback
Pause 🟠 Orange Pause recording/playback
Stop 🔴 Red Stop recording/playback
Fresh 🔵 Cyan Refresh start time
Browse 🟠 Orange-Red Select file
Schedule 🟣 Purple Schedule future recording
Exit 🟣 Purple Close application

Keyboard & Mouse Shortcuts

  • Click Play: Start video playback
  • Drag Slider: Seek to position in video
  • Adjust Volume: Move volume slider left/right
  • Adjust Brightness: Move brightness slider left/right

Troubleshooting Video Playback

Video Not Showing?

  1. Ensure video file exists and is readable
  2. Check file format is supported (MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV)
  3. Verify FFmpeg is installed (see VIDEO_PLAYBACK_GUIDE.md)

No Audio?

  1. Check volume slider is not at 0%
  2. Verify system volume is not muted
  3. Test audio device in Recording tab first
  4. Try different audio file format

Playback Issues?

  1. Status label will show specific error
  2. Check VIDEO_PLAYBACK_GUIDE.md for solutions
  3. Try with a different video file

  1. Use MP4 format for best compatibility
  2. Close background apps for smooth playback
  3. Ensure good disk space for recording
  4. Keep audio devices connected properly
