Windows 10 Minimal Not Working

Not sure what happened, but its not displaying correctly. I don't have any modifications of the styles I'm just using the base settings

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

may I ask what is your windows build? I am only able to reproduce this issue when specifically selecting "New Layout + side by side" from the start menu layout dropdown, which is a custom layout.

Since yours appears to be set to default, I'm just wondering if maybe you have an windows insider build, which will have some of the upcoming start menu changes. Or maybe you have an older build with the legacy start menu?

that's the latest stable version of windows, so not outdated or an insider build, thanks for the screenshot!

have you tried selecting a different layout option, and then going back to default?
what happens if you restore an older version of the mod or theme?

how does the full version of the theme look? The minimal variant is based on the full version. Try the full variant from the dropdown and let me know, then try both minimal variants from here:

that should help me narrow down where the issue is somewhat

Different layouts and back didn't fix it. None of the themes seem to work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mod and that didn't work. Disabling it, it looks like this:

Which is strange because its weirdly close to what the regular Windows 10 one looks like I think? How do I rollback a mod version? I updated it recently, but this was happening before that update as well.

I can see that you have the new (not legacy) start menu which is good, but I don't see the recommended section, you don't have the option to disable that yet do you? I know its coming but haven't seen it myself so far.

while I'm in the car heading home, could you try killing startmenuexperiencehost.exe in task manager, and see if it loads up looking the same way while the mod is disabled?

If it does look identical to the image above, I'll have you reenable the broken w10 minimal theme, and guide you through uwpspy to see what your start menu is doing regarding the individual elements of the start menu, and to possibly adjust the elements so they aren't out of bounds

If it loads back up with the recommended section, I believe enabling the theme again will work assuming that isn't something you disabled in windows.

Sorry it was the end of the day for me as well. I tried killing the startmenuexperiencehost.exe in task manager, but it didn't change how the menu looked without the mod on. I do have recommendations off, but turning them back on while the mod is disabled and then turning the mod back on doesn't fix it, still the same blank off centered look.

No worries, I figured you must have either gone to sleep or got tired of troubleshooting haha

hmm okay so if you have time, let me guide you through UWPspy so we can see exactly how your start menu is structured, and how it differs from mine. I'm assuming the apps list is being pushed way off to the right and completely off menu

1. disable mod
2. go to UWPspy guide, download app from link at top https://github.com/bbmaster123/FWFU/blob/main/Guides/uwpspy.md
3. spy on startmenuexperiencehost.exe, and enlarge the window so when you take a screenshot I can see at least most of the names of the elements on the left
4. open start menu, make sure uwpspy is the active window, then hover over the apps list and press ctrl+D to jump to it in uwpspy
5. apps list should have a red box over it. enabled the mod, open the start menu again. Uncheck highlight selection, then check it again to see where the red box appears now.
6. send screenshot

that's about as far as we can go for now, but once I see that screenshot I can probably come up with a proper fix for you, send you the updated code, and you just copy/paste it into the mod. I'll guide you though that part when we get there.

almost, its just that the apps list isn't the selected element. it should be called Windows.UI.Xaml.Controls.GridView#AllAppsGrid
I'd like to see where the red box appears for that element but if you are having trouble finding it, you can right click at the top of the tree and click copy subtree, which will create a huge list of every element and paste it here for me to check out.

I did notice "selected index" is set to -1 for you but was 0 for me on the AllAppsGrid, so I tried manually setting the alignment

Yea its still definitely too high, there must be another difference somewhere, but the easiest way to finish fixing this is to go to line 193:

and change RenderTransform to

that will shift the list down 20 pixels. if 20 isn't perfect just keep adjusting until it looks correct

Seems to be good in terms of the list position, that button on the top left is still in a weird position, not sure if it even needs to be there.

well it is supposed to be at the top left, but im not sure why its cut off. If you want to just remove it add this to the bottom of the theme code
