title: "How to Choose Your OVHcloud Gaming VPS Plan"

## Objective
8+
9+
Choosing the right VPS to host a game server goes beyond price. The game engine, player count, installed mods, and the geographic location of your players all directly impact the resources you need.
10+
11+
**This guide explains how to choose the OVHcloud Gaming VPS plan that best matches your game server requirements.**
12+
13+
## Requirements
14+
15+
- An [OVHcloud account](/links/manager)
16+
17+
## Instructions
18+
19+
### Why server resources matter
20+
21+
An underpowered game server causes lag, disconnections, and a poor experience for your players. Conversely, an oversized server is a waste of money. The right balance depends on three key factors:
22+
23+
- **Game engine** — an Unreal Engine 5 title consumes far more resources than a Source Engine game.
24+
- **Concurrent player count** — each connected player adds CPU and network load.
25+
- **Mods and plugins** — they can multiply RAM consumption by 2x or 3x.
26+
27+
> [!primary]
28+
> **OVHcloud Golden Rule**
29+
>
30+
> Always target a configuration slightly above the game's official minimum requirements. A 20–30% RAM headroom ensures stability during peak activity (combat, explosions, terrain generation).
31+
32+
### OVHcloud Gaming VPS plans
33+
34+
OVHcloud offers six VPS plans with unlimited bandwidth. Plans VPS-1 through VPS-4 cover the vast majority of games for up to 10 players. Plans VPS-5 and VPS-6 are designed for more advanced use cases: running multiple game servers simultaneously, large communities, or multi-title platforms.
35+
36+
| Plan | vCores | RAM | Storage | Bandwidth | Price / mo |
37+
|------|--------|-----|---------|-----------|------------|
38+
| VPS-1 | 4 | 8 GB | 75 GB SSD | 400 Mbit/s | $5.99 excl. tax |
39+
| VPS-2 *(Recommended)* | 6 | 12 GB | 100 GB SSD NVMe | 1 Gbit/s | $9.19 excl. tax |
40+
| VPS-3 | 8 | 24 GB | 200 GB SSD NVMe | 1.5 Gbit/s | $18.39 excl. tax |
41+
| VPS-4 | 12 | 48 GB | 300 GB SSD NVMe | 2 Gbit/s | $34.09 excl. tax |
42+
| VPS-5 | 16 | 64 GB | 350 GB SSD NVMe | 2.5 Gbit/s | $50.69 excl. tax |
43+
| VPS-6 | 24 | 96 GB | 400 GB SSD NVMe | 3 Gbit/s | $67.29 excl. tax |
44+
45+
All plans include Anti-DDoS protection.
46+
47+
### Choosing a plan by game
48+
49+
The table below lists each game with its official minimum server requirements and the recommended OVHcloud VPS plan for a stable session with up to 10 concurrent players. Games are ranked from lightest to most demanding.
50+

### Advanced use cases — VPS-5 and VPS-6
80+
81+
VPS-5 and VPS-6 are not required for a single game with 10 players. Their value lies in the ability to run multiple game servers simultaneously on a single machine, or to host large communities (50 to 100+ players). They are designed for community managers, independent studios, and hosting resellers.

## Objective
8+
9+
The OVHcloud Game Panel allows you to deploy a DayZ server in a few steps. The panel handles the installation automatically, including Steam authentication and network port configuration.
10+
11+
**This guide explains how to deploy and connect to a DayZ server on the OVHcloud Game Panel.**
12+
13+
## Requirements
14+
15+
- A [VPS](/links/bare-metal/vps) in your OVHcloud account with the Game Panel feature enabled.
16+
- Access to the Game Panel. Refer to our guide on [Log in to the Game Panel](/pages/bare_metal_cloud/virtual_private_servers/game-panel-log-in).
17+
- A Steam account to authenticate the DayZ server installation.
18+
19+
## Instructions
20+
21+
### Step 1 — Access the Game Panel
22+
23+
Log in to your OVHcloud Game Panel.
24+
25+
From the left-hand menu, go to the `Game Servers`{.action} section and click `Add Game Server`{.action}.
26+
27+
<!-- DRAFT: To screenshot — Game Servers section with Add Game Server button -->
28+
![Game Servers section with the Add Game Server button](images/add-game-server.png){.thumbnail}
29+
30+
Select **DayZ** from the game list. A configuration window opens.
31+
32+
### Step 2 — Configure your server
33+
34+
In the configuration window:
35+
36+
- Enter a **Server Name**.
37+
- Enter your **Steam Username** and **Steam Password**.
38+
39+
> [!warning]
40+
>
41+
> It is strongly recommended to use a dedicated Steam account for this purpose, not your personal one. Use a complex password and disable email-based two-factor authentication (Steam Guard) on that account before proceeding.

45+
46+
### Step 3 — Configure the network ports
47+
48+
The following UDP ports are pre-configured in the installation form:
49+
50+
| Port | Purpose |
51+
|------|---------|
52+
| 2382 | Game |
53+
| 2384 | Steam |
54+

55+
| 27616 | Query Steam |
56+
57+

63+
64+
### Step 4 — Launch the installation
65+
66+
Click `Install`{.action}. The deployment starts automatically. The panel will:
67+
68+
1. Download the DayZ server image.
69+
2. Install the server files.
70+
71+
Once installation is complete, click `Launch`{.action} to start your server.
72+
73+

75+
76+
### Step 5 — Verify the server is running
77+
78+
Once started, confirm the server status is **Running**. CPU and RAM activity should be visible in the panel.
79+
80+
The following controls are available:
81+
82+
- `Console`{.action} — monitor server startup and activity in real time.
83+
- `Logs`{.action} — check logs if there are any issues.
84+
- `Settings`{.action} — access game configuration options.

### Step 6 — Configure game settings (optional)
90+
91+
Click `Settings`{.action} on your server, then open `Game Config`{.action} to adjust in-panel options such as automatic updates.
92+
93+
For advanced configuration, use the **File Manager** to edit the DayZ server configuration file directly.

97+
98+
### Step 7 — Connect to your server
99+
100+
In the **Connection** column of the Game Servers list, copy your server's IP address and port.
101+
102+
To join from the DayZ client:
103+
104+
1. Launch **DayZ**.
105+
2. Go to **Servers** and click **Direct Connect** at the bottom.
106+
3. Enter your IP address and port (e.g., `192.168.1.1:2302`).
107+
4. Click **Connect**.
