Judging by the lack of new features and the huge amount of open issues I think we can safely assume this project has been abandoned, right?

Would have been delighted to! But although I have done a little bit of Python programming, it is not in my list of favorites :( I noticed it never reached 1.0 although it seems pretty complete at what it does. Pity it does not support basic inline images in the scene (no formatting options) for more visual manuscripts.

Current priority is still to improve reliability and port GUI toolkit to something not outdated. Because it is pretty annoying that Manuskript might still crash on users and they potentially loose data. That is the most aspect it's no complete version.

But the problem is that such fixes take time and resources which at the moment are rare. I'm mostly working on other projects. But I will try my best to help others with contributions to improve current state.

I loved .NET C# with its powerful GUI but years later when I came back to Linux I realized that Mono 🐒 had never reached that level of maturity. I felt at a loss, but that same year I learned Python, I discovered Go which not only brought the advantages of being a compiled language, butt that it was also multi platform and extremely easy to cross-develop. I have done Fyne (Go's official GUI toolkit) which is just as portable, only not as flexible or complete as WinForms but for what it brings in portability, it is a reasonable tradeoff.
Many developers go the way of awful JavaScript and Electron or other web-tech ways of being multi-platform in non-native ways, but as I discovered, those rely on libraries that become a dependency nightmare.
In any case, I understand, I am hooked up on my Go projects and writing.
