AI-Powered Terminal Development Plan

Implementation Priorities

This document outlines the prioritized plan for integrating the AI service with the terminal interface and improving the user experience in our Warp Terminal Clone project.

Phase 1: Core Terminal-AI Integration (Weeks 1-2)

High Priority Components

  1. Command Input AI Integration

    • Create useTerminalAI hook for managing AI service interactions
    • Implement real-time command suggestions as user types
    • Add keyboard shortcuts for suggestion navigation (Tab/Shift+Tab)
    • Implement suggestion selection and insertion
  2. Command Execution Context

    • Track command execution history and results
    • Capture environment context (working directory, exit codes)
    • Feed context to AI service for improved suggestions
    • Implement context persistence between sessions
  3. Basic Command Explanations

    • Add command explanation functionality to terminal output
    • Implement "explain this command" feature (Ctrl+/)
    • Show simple explanations after command execution
    • Support structured explanations for common commands
