Changing External Browser That Links Open In

Hi,

I recently changed the internet browser that I use on my desktop from Firefox to Brave. I tried having a look but cannot find how to change the browser from the old (Firefox) browser to the new (Brave) browser for links from RSSGuard. I would greatly appreciate your help.

If browser is registered as default one in the OS than no need to change anything, RSS Guard should use it by default.
If not look at Settings -> Network & web & tools -> External web browser.

I tried looking into inputting the details of the browser that I want but that options is not given to me in RSSGuard. I have attached a screenshot to illustrate.

There is a checkbox on the left of "Use a custom...". Click it and magic will happen.

Thank you, the box was not clearly showing on my screen.

What details would I need to enter into the 'Web browser executable'? I assume it is to do with Brave browser, but I do not know what I am looking for nor where to find it.

If you are on Linux try "which brave".

I am using LinuxMint, so would I need to just enter which brave into the box next to 'Web browser executable'?

"Which" is a linux command. It shows the path to the executable, like "which perl" give you the path to perl. So run it on Linux to get the path for brave.

Then run the first command described here, restart RSS Guard, and then configure your external browser settings exactly like this:

I did as advised; but, links do not open at all. I have attached a screenshot of the configuration of the external browser.

It's likely that you're not using the Flatpak version at all, then. For instance, in the latest Flatpak build of RSS Guard there's no "Node.js" section anymore (as your screenshot shows).

Try this: Leave RSS Guard running, then run flatpak ps in a terminal window, and post what you get here, please.

Ah, that explains it. You're using the Lite build. So that first command I told you to run from the website needs to be changed to:

flatpak --user override --talk-name=org.freedesktop.Flatpak io.github.martinrotter.rssguardlite

By the way, the Lite version is now abandoned after version 5.0.0 got released (yesterday), so I recommend you just install io.github.martinrotter.rssguard and migrate your feeds to that version.

I have installed version 5 now; however I do not know how to migrate the feeds from the older version. Could you please help?

My bad, because that location has white space characters, it needs to be properly escaped:

Not sure what you mean by "old version of the feeds"... If you've only used the Lite version as a Flatpak, that database is assumed to be up to date. If you think it's an old version then you've probably used a different build of RSS Guard (e.g. AppImage), which uses a different database at a different location (~/.config/RSS Guard 4/database/database.db).

I have been able to get RSSGuard 5.0 up and running with the feeds that I had on the 4.0 version. Although I have not been able RSSGuard to open links in my Brave browser.

Just set the default system wide browser to your preferred browser and untick Use custom external browser
