Including media thumbnails in ATOM content

I've been using RSS Guard to grab ATOM content from sites like YouTube and was a little frustrated at the lack of simple thumbnail images. Managed an inelegant filter solution that grabs the thumbnail URL, if there is one, and sticks it at the top of an article's content:

I know browser capabilities are going to be stripped in the new version, but it would be nice to at least have simple thumbnails integrated in feed content when it comes around.

Next-gen article renderer supports almost full HTML content. All images and proper formatting will be kept of course.

As for displaying thumbnails. If the article provides attachments/enclosures, then those are displayed directly.

So cleaner way is to extract URLs of those thumbnails and append them to article enclosures.

Heck, I didn't realize thumbnails counted as attachments, so I had that option turned off. Thanks for clarifying!

Well, technically, some feeds are "proper" and they declare list of attachments (some of which may be pictures, yes). Other feeds do not declare attachments and just inline pictures in its article contents etc.
