Observational Analysis: Pressing Patterns & Transitional Play β€” Arsenal 1-1 Man City (21 Sep 2025)

Hi @martineastwood, thanks for the excellent #39 (Press Bypass Rate + SPTG proposal). I watched the Arsenal vs Man City fixture at the Emirates (21 Sep 2025, 1-1 draw) and wanted to share my observational data to complement the feature request discussion below.

Pressing Patterns I Observed

What's missing is the tactical context layer β€” the reasons why things happen. These metrics would:

  1. Distinguish "effective press" from "press that was bypassed" (PBR)
  2. Quantify the set-piece-to-open-play vulnerability window (SPTG)
  3. Capture decision quality in transition, not just speed (TDQI)
  4. Detect press fatigue patterns automatically across match datasets

These features would complement the existing betting/odds models by adding a new dimension of tactical process analysis that could inform match predictions far more deeply than outcome-only models.
