⛓️ Research Handling Guidelines

  • Environment Integrity: Always download and open PDFs within an isolated, air-gapped, or sandboxed environment (Whonix/Tails) to prevent potential macro-based exploits or hidden script execution.
  • Metadata Stripping: Before importing these files into your primary knowledge base, use tools (like exiftool) to strip all document metadata, author tags, and embedded thumbnails.
  • Persistence: Save all research materials to an encrypted, offline-only container. Do not store these files on cloud-synchronized drives.

🔍 Research Integrity Checklist

  • Isolated Reader: Using a secure, hardened PDF viewer (e.g., QPDFView or a sandbox-isolated environment).
  • JavaScript Disabled: Ensure the PDF reader has JavaScript execution capabilities permanently disabled.
  • Checksum Verification: Verify the SHA-256 hash of all downloaded documents against trusted source fingerprints.
  • Metadata Audit: All downloaded files have been scrubbed of origin metadata.
