Config Menu on U64e2 not working. #166

You should take 0.224 (I accidentally disabled something in the 0.223). The config menu should always come up, if it doesn't you might want to try different timings (either via patching the firmware, the timing tool, or pressing reset for >5s <- but I don't remember if this works on U64-boards) |

Thanks for prompt response. The menu is hit or miss on a U64. I wll try the patch tool and report back. I haven't used the timing tool <yet> as I haven't had a need on real hardware.
What exactly is the 'special addressing' mode for U64's? I noticed when I flash the U64 FW, I loose the ability to set an address for second SID and in NO case, does the U64's FW recognize a SID in a socket with any of the FW's.
But even without config menu access or the U64 not recognizing a SID, music still plays. It's interesting that flashing (2) chips with the exact FW and testing in the exact machine yield different results.
I'm REALLY brainstorming a better programming option than the pogo pins, despite how straight they may look, I need to under the microscope to get visual confirmation each time to confirm contact.
But, def thanks for a great project and I'd be interested in a little elaboration on the expected U64 FW addressing and how the U64's are supposed recognize the SIDs.
Thanks again!
Best,
J

In addition, I found discrepancies with the U64 FW flashed to the SIDKick, where the config menu DOES not pull up on a U64e2, but works prefectly on a real breadbin. What is the External CS option in that FW too? I cannot find any documentation on it? Thank you again. Best, |

Ok, so that's cool. I missed the 'wiring the U64' part and was looking for dox on the FW page. I noticed that the one of the FW, either the U64 or C64 only gave an addressing option for $d400 or external CS, I'll have to fact check myself on that and confirm which one, but I would assume External CS is when using wires on A5/A8? I know wiring for audio out through mainboard and line out work in tandum, so I guess those jumpers being closed wouldn't matter
I did put the timing PRG on the U64 thumbdrive so I have access to that now. I ran the PRG and saw it's a 3-11 type thing, but didn't try anything just yet, I was looking for documentation on it, (I know you're one person, lol, not saying anything, hahahaha), I jhust wanted to see before I started messing with things.. but I would assume trying one digit at a time and testing would be the way to go, assuming it rights to flash right away.
U64FW update: I don't think I updated to the absolute latest, at least not the one running in Commodore Peri's machines, (which I do not own). I forget which one I am running though. It's the last one that Gideon released and the first one to have Picture in Picture, so that probably explains things with that..
Thanks again for proper reponse!
Best,
J

The setup for the U64-firmware is described here: https://github.com/frntc/SIDKick-pico#installing-additional-cables-in-an-ultimate-64-board--commodore-64-ultimate -- does this answer your questions?
The latest firmware update of the U64 does recognize the SKpico (but to be honest, I didn't have time to try it out myself).
Pogo pins: this is easier with the SKpico2350*.
Re discrepancies: the U64-firmware can also be used in real C64s (but the address options are gone). Whether the config tool comes up or not is most likely just a timing issue.

So I just flashed some a couple 2040's with the latest FW .223 and I cannot get the config menu to pull up via SYS54301. Screen just clears to a blue screen and ready prompt. Audio is working though. As I'm typing this, I just realized I didn't try digies yet, but eitherway, the config screen should appear I wold think.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
