is there a way to make it work on valve's gaming mode session?
i tried a xvfb service and script wrapper, but nothing works
also tried adding it as a non steam game, but the whole session breaks and restarts if i open it

Steam Deck Gaming Mode is not a normal GNOME desktop session, so Mini EQ’s current background/start-at-login path may not work there as-is.

Can you share a few details?

• SteamOS version
• Mini EQ version and install source, for example Flathub 0.8.4
• Whether Mini EQ works correctly in Desktop Mode
• Whether your goal is only to run the EQ in the background for game audio, or also to open/control the UI from Gaming Mode

After reproducing the Gaming Mode failure, please switch back to Desktop Mode and run:

journalctl --user -b --no-pager -o short-iso | grep -iE 'mini-eq|flatpak|pipewire|wireplumber|xdg-desktop-portal|gamescope'

If you are launching Mini EQ through a wrapper/non-Steam game entry, please also try redirecting its output to a file:

flatpak run io.github.bhack.mini-eq --background --auto-route > "$HOME/mini-eq-gaming-mode.log" 2>&1

and attach mini-eq-gaming-mode.log.

The most useful thing to understand first is whether Mini EQ starts and then exits, fails before connecting to PipeWire, or whether Gaming Mode restarts as soon as the GTK UI tries to open. For now I’ll treat this as a Steam Deck/Gaming Mode support request rather than a confirmed Mini EQ bug.
