Reproduction Steps:
- Have an audio device connected via USB or USB DAC device.
- Have no active audio sources.
- Select a game to play via Proton.
- Open Audio settings/Pipewire/Wireplumber to preview active audio sources.
- Launch a game through Proton
Observed:
Game boots up without audio with its audio source getting created and removed.
Expected:
Proton wakes up audio devices through OS's audio manager.
Description:
Proton does not send a wake-up signal through Wireplumber to wake up USB audio devices and keeps on creating and removing active audio-streams. This issue occurs regardless of the selected game to play through Proton. Verified on Proton-Experimental and branched off cachyOS version of proton. When the game without audio device is active it is impossible to get any audio playback when playing external audio source while the game runs until it is closed.
This issue mostly affects users with their audio routed through external DACs like Fiio BTR3K connected via USB(set to USB DAC mode). There is a workaround where having an active audio source like a browser or audio player keeps a USB device active to Proton to fetch and attach itself before the game launches.
Attaching a screenshot with showing a 5th audio-source generated in a short span of time after launching and no audio.
