[Improvement] Temperature guage/meter

What problem are you trying to solve?

I'm am trying to figure out how much energy use is related to outdoor temperature (cold/hot) over time.

First off; fantastic widget!!!

As energy consumption for a house is often related to temperature, i.e. when it's cold energy goes to heating, and when it's hot it goes to cooling.

What I miss in the built in energy dashboard > Electricity > Electricity usage is a temperature curve (as my solar production widget has a curve for forecast).

Proposed solution

In the main widget, a simple temperature pill e.g. taken from Forecast by met.no (or equivalents).

When clicking on the temperature pill, a temperature curve could render.
When clicking on the house consumption pill, the temperature curve could render a secondary line.

Alternatives considered

I've tried to figure out how Solcast PV Forecast have been able to render the forecast curve in the Energy Dashboard > Electricity > Electricity usage...

...in order to create a similar function for temperature in Electricity usage, but as a UX designer, rather than a developer, I've hit a wall despite asking LLM's for aid.

Thank you so much for this, and for the kind words about the card, it means a lot.

Funnily enough, this is something I had already been thinking about, so your suggestion lands perfectly and pushes it up the list. You are right that outdoor temperature is a huge part of the story: so much of a home's consumption is really heating or cooling reacting to the weather, and the card does not surface that today.

Here is what I would like to do:

• First, add a new temperature chip that fetches and shows the outdoor temperature, with its own curve behind it, exactly like the other chips, so you can bring it up on its own or read it alongside the consumption curve.
• Second, and this matters for accuracy, let you override that temperature source with a local temperature sensor of your own, so people who have a real outdoor probe get their true readings rather than a regional forecast value.

There is a nice bonus here too. In #320 I am planning to let you open several curves at once to compare them, so once both land you will be able to overlay outdoor temperature against your house consumption natively, or compare the consumption of different entities against each other, whichever you choose.

If that sounds right to you, I will target it for the 2026.9.0 release. And if you have any UX thoughts on how the chip and the overlay should behave, your eye as a designer is very welcome here.

Regarding the UX I think you have nailed it already (I'm actually kind of jealous of what you have accomplished) and in hindsight wish I had broken the design boundaries more often than I have. You are an inspiration!
The chip mechanics are a very nice discoverable feature where the drop shadow and the border does not scream "click me!" but the hand cursor invites clicking :) Chef's kiss to the minimalistic and very functional design.
I would probably place the temperature chip close/in proxmimity to the home/house chip as it, in my brain, is tied to the total consumption rather than pv production, grid flow or the battery.
What you are planning sounds right to me!

I read your message a few times before replying. Being called an inspiration by someone who designs for a living is not something I can brush off with a quick thanks, so I will just say it landed, and it stays with me.

What got me most is that you noticed the exact thing I was reaching for: a chip whose shadow and border do not shout "click me", but whose cursor quietly invites it. That intention, spotted by the one kind of person most likely to see it, means more than any feature request could.

On the design, your placement instinct is exactly mine. Temperature belongs next to the home, because it is a story about consumption, heating and cooling, not about production, the grid or the battery. So that is where the chip will live.

And your idea is not a side note, it is right at the heart of the next release.

I just announced it: "Your real sky" (2026.9.0) is all about the weather and how it shapes your energy, the temperature chip and its curve, a local-sensor override for accuracy, and the multi-curve overlay from #320 to lay temperature over your consumption. Here is the announcement: #347

I'm so glad to hear that the well-earned praise landed as intended :).

I've never been a fan or supporter of the (industry standard) distinction and separation between developers and designers - at heart I believe that anybody involved in product/service design is a designer; some are designing in code and others are designing in interactions, wireframes, flows, words, pixels, vectors, or even plans. Some in more field than one.

Like you. And me. And other creators that are not limiting themselves to a single label :)

...and another thing that is impressive is the settings interface with actually helpful titles, descriptions and help texts. And even this, seldom accessed UI seem to be a labor of love.

Yes, I completely share your view, and the "engine" behind it is simple I think: you just have to love your project.
I spend hours trying lots of little things, and I have my wife and my kids test them a lot, without explaining anything to them, just to see whether it clicks or not. It is a slightly silly method, but it works pretty well (apart from a few recent misfires, the groups especially :p).
