I've never used it since taking over as maintainer of some of the books because I didn't have the time/inclination to debug it.
I test locally then push to BioC git.

It didn't work when we took over. I tried to debug it for a short while, then gave up. Likewise, have always built locally.

IIRC these updates were intended to create a link table that exposes the tags for cross-referencing by other packages, see rebook::link(). This allows us to create links across packages representing different subbooks, which provides a seamless switching between subbooks while allowing for modular compilation on the BBS.
