Audio output for the external USB DAC on Android

Hello guys! Thank you for the best audio player ever. I really love it's satellite option.

I'm using it on my Android device "Redmi 9T" (https://www.mi.com/global/product/redmi-9t/specs/) in Termux with the external 32bit USB DAC (https://www.fiio.com/melody)

MPD's audio output is the standard Android output "sles":

As far as I know, it supports only 16bit output. What audio_output should I configure for 32bit output?

What Android software API can your hardware work with? Does it support SLES at 32 bit? Or which other API?

Please tell me how can I found it out. I'm not a developer nor a specialist in Android. My Android device is not rooted. My instruments are Termux, ADB and some third-party apps.

While OpenSLES might support 24-bit; the reality is everything gets resampled and mixed. It won't do 32-bit...even though there's not a whole lot of true 32-bit integer stuff out there. Since probably what you really want is "bit-perfect" playback...where your device's rate matches whatever your source is; OpenSLES is not what you want.

This would require AAudio API support.

hi, I'm curious, what's the use case for this when you can just null the device and mpd will autoselect output based on system info? Or your setup is a bit peculiar that require some fine-tune changes like this?

Sorry for that naive question since I have never tried mpd on Android myself, I only do mpc at most.

There is no playback with every output commented out in the config.

Reconfigured to OpenAL with no device specified instead of SLES, it plays. I think it's the same SLES under OpenAL.

Is there a point using pipewire or pulseaudio on Termux?
