Mac Compatibility Issues

Hi there!

I am having issues downloading ParKVFinder-- specifically having a successful 'make' of the executable file. I am on a Mac, and have followed GCC instructions. However, at the end of the process I am getting this error:

ld: unsupported tapi file type '!tapi-tbd' in YAML file '/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX15.sdk/usr/lib/libSystem.tbd' for architecture arm64
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [parKVFinder] Error 1

I have tried troubleshooting, but it has not been successful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

Thank you for reporting this issue.

The error you're encountering is related to how recent macOS versions (particularly with the ARM64 architecture and SDKs like macOS 15) handle dynamic libraries, specifically .tbd files. Unfortunately, ParKVFinder was not designed with this newer toolchain in mind, and we’re aware of the build issues on newer macOS systems.

We are currently investigating this and working on a fix. However, in the meantime, we recommend using one of the actively supported and more flexible alternatives:

• pyKVFinder – A Python package compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux. It offers the main functionalities of parKVFinder, including PyMOL and ChimeraX plugins. More information: https://github.com/LBC-LNBio/pyKVFinder.

• KVFinder-web – A web-based version that requires no local installation. You can access it directly at: https://kvfinder-web.cnpem.br/.
