The R-Instat help is produced using the HelpNDoc tool. It can produce the help file in various formats namely Chm, html, word, pdf, EPub EBook, Mobipocket/Kindle Ebook, Qt Help and markdown.
It is currently a Chm file. I recently had a problem producing a version, in that the compression increased the size of the resulting file considerable, and then it also couldn't be opened. I wrote to the producers. Their reply contained the following:
"I'm not sure how the size increase can be explained as it depends on multiple factors such as compression ratio for newer library items and possibly bugs from the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop software: this is an ancient software which hasn't been updated by Microsoft in years but is unfortunately the only "reliable" way to generate CHM help files for Windows."
I now wonder whether we could, instead, produce and then use, the html version of the help, in the same way as we currently use the Chm?
Here is the current file open: (I like it!)
@kisinga said to tag him on this issue, and he would look at the problem. So I am.
@rachelkg if this were to be possible I suggest it would open the door to the html being in different languages. But one step at a time!
